Welcome to the Floodplain Management Division

The Nebraska Floodplain Management Division handles floodplain management matters for the state of Nebraska. We are responsible for coordinating an overall program aimed at addressing the wise use of land that is subject to flooding.

The Nebraska Floodplain Management Division was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2019 Cooperating Technical Partners (CTP) Recognition Program. As part of the award, FEMA created a Story Map highlighting the Floodplain Management Division’s program. Click here to view the Story Map.

In order to promote orderly use and distribution of water, Nebraska state laws have provided protection of groundwater supply under a permitting system for public water suppliers and industrial water users, along with a centralized repository of information about groundwater wells.
